Turbine Upgrade

Turbine Upgrade

Increased Production and Efficiency

In August 2009, the first of the 50+ year old turbines was lifted out of the Box Canyon power house. The following three turbines were replaced in 2012, 2013 and 2015. The new units have proven increased energy production and efficiency levels that exceeded engineering expectations. With the upgrades, Box Canyon's generation capacity increased from 72 to 90 megawatts. The new turbines are structured with four runner blades instead of the original five blades, providing a more fish friendly feature.
