2019 Summer Employment Opportunities

Part-Time

The District will have the following summer employment opportunities for those students who are eligible and qualified (see attached guidelines below for additional information). The term of employment for all the positions listed is approximately 3 months and may begin as early as mid-May (depending on school schedules).

Position Summary – IT Support/Maintenance (2 Openings)

These temporary, full-time employment opportunity will be based out of the Newport Administration Building in Newport, WA.  The primary responsibilities for this position will be to perform certain aspects of IT support including but not limited to; troubleshooting and support of PUD computers, hands on work with the PUD network data switches, and potential experience working with the PUD's GIS system.  The successful candidate should have familiarity with computers, IT data networks, be very detail oriented, a good communicator and must possess the ability to use applications in a Microsoft Windows 10 environment.

The normal working hours are 8-5 Monday-Friday.

Position Summary – Office Aide/Tour Guide, Box Canyon (1 Opening)

This temporary, full-time employment opportunity will be located at the Box Canyon hydroelectric project. This position will provide all aspects of clerical assistance for the Production Department, including training and understanding of the PUD’s records management obligations and policies.  Standard work will include inventorying and scanning/archiving hard-copy records of the PUD.  In addition to office work, this position will assist in giving tours of the dam to the general public and engage in other duties as assigned. 

The normal working hours are 7:30 – 4:00, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary – Records Maintenance, Newport (1 Opening)

This temporary, full-time employment opportunities will be based out of the PUD's facility in Newport, WA, reporting to the Regulatory Compliance Coordinator.  This is an office-based position that will include training and understanding of the PUD’s records management obligations and policies.  Standard work will include inventorying and scanning/archiving hard-copy records of the PUD, and other office/administrative tasks as assigned.

The normal working hours are 8:00 – 4:30, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary – Warehouse Worker (1 Opening)

This temporary, full-time employment opportunities will be based out of the Newport Line Crew Headquarters Building in Newport, WA.  The primary job responsibilities will be to maintain the overall physical condition and appearance of the warehouse, as well as grounds and building maintenance for the Administration Headquarters facility. Position will involve stocking of part/inventory item and loading/unloading various materials, sometimes involving the use of a forklift and District vehicles. Other tasks will require the use of power landscaping equipment and power/hand tools. Training will be provided as needed. Moderate (and sometimes rigorous) physical exertion will be required; work occurs both indoors and outdoors, under a variety of summer weather conditions.

The normal working hours are 7:30 – 4:00, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary – Production Maintenance, Box Canyon (2 Openings)

These temporary, full-time employment opportunity will be located at the Box Canyon hydroelectric project. Maintenance workers assist in the overall plant maintenance and cleanup as well as grounds and facility maintenance of numerous off-site locations. They may also be asked to drive and operate small vehicles and equipment in the course of their job duties.

The normal working hours are 7:30-4:00, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary – CNS GIS Data Collection (1 Opening)

This temporary, full-time employment opportunity will be located at the Pend Oreille PUD Line Headquarters facility in Newport, WA.  This position includes working with field crews to complete line extension builds, warehouse inventory duties, performing minor field maintenance at HUB cabinet sites, logging data, and assisting CNS staff with associated duties.  This position will require computer data entry into software systems.  Light field data collection work using GPS technology may also be required and on occasion may require the utilization of a forklift.  Individual will work closely with the CNS Supervisor and staff to organize and accurately record levels of working stock and deployed materials.

The normal working hours are 8-5 Monday-Friday.

Position Summary – Brush Crew (2 Openings)

These are temporary, full-time positions. These positions will be based out of the Newport Line Crew facility.  Brush crew members will work alongside District line construction and vegetation maintenance crews, responsible for clearing brush and small trees within power line easements and other rights-of-way. They are also given the responsibility of vegetation cleanup after District line/vegetation maintenance crews remove larger trees/branches.  Brush crew members are also responsible for safety flagging duties on state/county roadways during the summer for the line/maintenance crews.  The Line Construction Superintendent will be the supervisor in charge of work assignments, but District line/tree trimming foremen will directly oversee day to day work activities.

 Working on a brush crew is a physically demanding job, requiring the ability to safely operate a chain saw and mobile chipping machine for extended time periods. Work is performed outdoors under a variety of summer weather and terrain conditions. Requirements include the ability to regularly stand, walk, climb, lift/carry and work under outdoor conditions of ongoing and significant physical exertion. Brush crew members must be able to work safely and sometimes independently – this requires a strong ability to be self-starting and demonstrate good judgment on a continuous basis.  Strict adherence to OSHA/WISHA standards and District safety procedures and practices will also be required.

 Working hours are 7:30-4:30 – Monday thru Friday.
